A List of Necessary Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements

We learn early in school just how important good diet and exercise is to our body. The basic food groups each have purposes and uses for proper health and growth throughout our lives. Vitamins, minerals and supplements help maintain a balanced body and mind through all they have to offer.

The alphabet vitamins and the “earthy” minerals we all need

In order to consume all of the foods containing each of the vital vitamins required by our body, we would have to eat many times over what we normally eat. Some of the vital nutrients our body requires are only found in trace amounts in our food so adding daily multi vitamins, minerals and supplements assures us we receive enough of what is required. Vitamin A is vital to bones, vision, and white blood cells and it is recommended we take in a minimum of 700 to 900 micrograms daily.

The B complex of vitamins have many uses

B complex includes the vitamins B1 (Thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (Pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folate or folic acid), as well as B12 (cobalamin). Each of these have a particular role in promoting health and vitality by insuring the enzymes in our body complete the activities they are intended for. Enzymes are needed to regulate chemical and how they react in our body. They help turn foods into forms of energy as required. Found in many food sources we obtain from plants and animals, the B complex vitamins are generally needed by our body in greater amounts than commonly obtained in foods we eat.

Vitamins C and E are antioxidants useful to the blood supply

Extremely beneficial to our immune system, vitamins C and E are antioxidants that fight off free radicals. These harmful toxins will deplete the oxygen supply in our blood, starving organs of their much needed oxygen supply. Vitamin C is also extremely valuable as a booster to our immune system, warding off viruses, colds, and flu.

Many useful minerals keep our body strong and healthy

There are many vitamins, minerals and supplements such as magnesium and calcium which are vital to our good health. It is minerals that may need supplementing most of all because most are not manufactured naturally in the human body.
